Retail & E-Commerce

Since the early 2000s, online retail has extended beyond traditional brick-and-mortar wholesale and retail channels and has enjoyed strong, sustained growth.

With its e-commerce–driven companies—Green Box (wholesale/B2B) and ecoware (retail/D2C)—Bionatic focuses on distributing sustainable products to commercial and private end customers, both nationally and internationally.

Green Box launched in 2010 as the first German online shop for eco-friendly food-service packaging made from renewable, recycled, and recyclable raw materials.

Initially serving Germany and Austria, additional online shops across Europe were launched from 2018. This brought many new customers—especially in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the UK—who value Green Box’s offerings and price-performance. These international e-shops ensure local product assortments tailored to each market.

Alongside this growth, the Green Box team gained extensive experience in shop development, operation, and optimizing e-commerce IT processes and data interfaces. They built proprietary in-house IT solutions for automated order handling—from order to shipping—integrating ERP systems with Shopware, Shopify, and national and international marketplaces and platforms.

Also in 2018, Green Box launched its D2C offering for private customers, focusing on sustainable household, kitchen, tableware, and gift items. They leveraged fast-growing e-marketplaces like Amazon to reach and serve customers domestically and abroad.

Today, Green Box operates six B2B online shops across Europe and plans to add two more EU-country shops in 2025. Meanwhile, ecoware supplies customers worldwide via its B2D (business-to-distributor) offering—from Austria to the USA—and now builds and manages e-commerce brand presences for companies on marketplaces under their own label.
